The White Whale

The agency’s team was tasked with developing a brand name as well as a packaging design for dumplings that would not only attract attention, but could outshine competitors' products. The name "White Whale" is metaphorical: dumplings floating in the water like white whales. The analysis of the grocery store shelf shows that competitors mainly use standard packaging solutions: a blue colour palette in combination with a food zone, which is very often poorly designed and looks unappetising. To effectively differentiate ourselves from our competitors, we decided to use an illustrative packaging style.
All frozen semi-finished products produced by White Kit are created by hand according to recipes of different nations, so a generical print style with simple and accessible images was chosen for the design. The plots are based on fairy-tale stories with each of them having a national "flavour" and a share of humour. The monochrome illustrations emphasise the original splint technique, while the bright colour palette makes the packaging more modern and strategically distinguishes it from competitors on the store shelf. A particular attention was paid to the type part: handwritten inscriptions were created that harmoniously complement the main graphics of the packaging.
